Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Nov. 9, according to Asahi Daily, LG and Samsung show that negotiations with Apple are in the final stages, and they plan to start producing OLED panels for the next generation of iPad Pro models around February 2024, ahead of schedule.
Some analysts say the price range is three times that of the existing mobile phone OLED panel. However, because the market for OLED panels for tablets is still in its infancy and the supply is limited compared to smartphones, shipments are expected to be around 10 million.
"LG Display will supply 6m iPad OLED panels next year, which is expected to achieve sales of 2.3 trillion won and operating profit of 120 billion won," KB Securities said, partially offsetting the decline in the company's profitability.
This means that LG Display will account for about 60 per cent of total supply, but investment in equipment has been delayed due to funding problems, so it is not clear whether the production line will be able to run as planned.
Bloomberg Mark Gurman expects the new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models to be released next year, introducing OLED displays, M3 chips and aluminum keyboards for the first time in the iPad product line.
Given that mass production of the OLED display will not begin until February, it is unlikely that the next iPad Pro will be launched in March and, more likely, the WWDC in June or later, but Apple's plans could still change, such as a release for a while before officially going on sale.
The existing iPad Pro is equipped with LCD panels, and the 12.9-inch model also uses mini-LED backlight technology to improve brightness and contrast.
In contrast, OLED technology will eliminate the need for backlight in iPad, and can lead to higher brightness, contrast, darker black and lower power consumption.
Ross Young said Apple will use a very thin hybrid OLED display that combines flexible and rigid materials, which could make the next generation of iPad Pro designs lighter and thinner.
Existing iPad Pro models support ProMotion variable refresh rate, allowing adjustment between 24Hz and 120Hz, while the new OLED model may further lower the refresh rate to 10Hz or lower, thus helping to improve battery life (CTOnews.com Note: iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro can reach a minimum of 1Hz).
In addition to the two iPad Pro models mentioned above, Apple is expected to update the iPad Air, iPad mini and entry-level iPad in 2024, but none of these models will have an OLED screen, and most likely will only upgrade the chip.
The last time Apple updated the iPad Pro series was in October 2022, when the major upgrades were M2 chip, Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.3 support, second-generation Apple Pencil hover and ProRes video recording support, which most netizens thought was small.
