According to data released by CTOnews.com on November 8, retail sales in the passenger car market reached 2.033 million in October 2023, an increase of 10.2% year-on-year and 0.7% month-on-month. Retail sales totaled 17.267 million this year, an increase of 3.2 per cent over the same period last year.

According to the statistics of the Federation, the export of passenger vehicles (including complete vehicles and CKD) in October was 391000, an increase of 49 per cent over the same period last year and 9 per cent month-on-month. From January to October, the export of passenger cars was 3.07 million, an increase of 66 per cent over the same period last year. New energy vehicles accounted for 28.6% of total exports in October. With the increase in export capacity, exports from independent brands reached 318000 in October, up 69 per cent from the same period last year and 7 per cent from the previous month, while exports from joint ventures and luxury brands were 73000, down 3 per cent from the same period last year.

In October, passenger car manufacturers nationwide wholesale 2.445 million vehicles, an increase of 11.3 percent over the same period last year, down 0.3 percent from the previous month. A total of 20.271 million vehicles were wholesale this year, an increase of 7.2% over the same period last year. Driven by new energy and export markets, manufacturers' sales hit an all-time high in October. In October, independent car companies wholesale 1.472 million vehicles, up 26 per cent year-on-year and 6 per cent month-on-month. Mainstream joint venture car companies wholesale 714000 vehicles, down 5 per cent year-on-year and 7 per cent month-on-month. 260000 luxury cars were wholesale, down 5% from the same period last year and 14% from the previous month.

In October, the production of new energy passenger vehicles reached 919000, an increase of 27.5 percent over the same period last year and 13.8 percent month-on-month. A total of 6.835 million vehicles were produced this year, an increase of 31.5% over the same period last year. Wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 883000 in October, up 30.1% from a year earlier and 5.7% from a month earlier. A total of 6.8 million vehicles were wholesale this year, an increase of 35.5% over the same period last year. The market for new energy vehicles sold 767000 new energy vehicles in October, up 37.5% from a year earlier and 2.7% from a month earlier. Retail sales totaled 5.954 million vehicles this year, an increase of 34.2% over the same period last year.

In October, 25 models sold more than 20, 000 passenger vehicles: 63965 BYD Song, 47164 Model Y, 43350 BYD Seagull, 42767 BYD Qin, 41449 BYD Yuan, 38927 Xuanyi, 38778 Lang Yi, 35189 BYD Dolphins, Haff H630042, EAY 27304, Changan CS75 27220, Suteng 26892, Wuling Colorado 26703, Ruihu 726224, Model 324951, Ruihu 822987, Xingyue 22613, Bo Yue 21955, 21501 Maiteng, 21296 Passat, 20943 Mingjue ZS, 20686 Fenglanda, 20504 CR-V, 20267 Biadihan, 20081 Mingjue 5 Series. Among them, new energy ranks in the top 5 of overall passenger car sales, and its dominant position is obvious.

CTOnews.com noted that 17 manufacturers sold more than 10,000 new energy passenger vehicles in October (unchanged from the previous month, up 2 from a year earlier), accounting for 88.8% of the total new energy passenger vehicles (88.1% last month, compared with 85.7% in the same period last year). SAIC GM has 10003 vehicles (note: the above figures are only wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles).
