Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com November 8 news, Tesla Model 3 can be used as an online ride-hailing for a long time? A Uber driver named Dobson used his Model 3 to ride for nearly a year and a half, driving a total of about 120,000 miles before the battery died.
His Model 3 had already done some mileage when it was bought in July 2022, and the car cost $53000, but soon saved $10, 000 on gas and maintenance. Dobson has run 120,000 miles since buying a car, which is a lot for the average user, but it's normal for Uber drivers who work six days a week, drive more than 193000 miles a day and recharge twice a day.
However, the high-voltage battery pack of Dobson's Model 3 has recently broken down, and the battery pack is suddenly "dead" rather than aging. In a previous video, when his car drove 90,000 miles, his battery pack showed an 11% decay, but after more than 110,000 miles, the range began to drop sharply, with only 170-180 miles when it was fully charged. According to Tesla's 2022 impact report, the battery capacity of a Tesla will only lose about 12% after driving 200,000 miles.
Dobson said Tesla told him that the decline of the battery pack was normal wear and tear, but he did not agree with it, saying that the battery pack was decaying too fast. He doesn't know if the Model 3 battery pack is broken because it is overcharged twice a day, often up to 90% or 95% of the battery. There is a view that frequent overcharging, especially charging beyond the recommended limit, will put a lot of pressure on the battery pack, but a recent study by Recurrent shows that there is little difference in the decline of the battery pack between frequent fast charging and a small amount of fast charging in Tesla's electric car.
Then one day, Dobson recharged his car at home all night, showing a range of 170 miles, but when he later recharged it with a supercharging station, the range was less than 35 miles. At this time, he received a notice from Tesla asking him to send the car for inspection. So he sent the car to Tesla's service center for evaluation and was later told that it would cost $9000 to replace the battery pack, which he accepted, and now he has limited charging to less than 80 per cent as suggested by Tesla, usually with a range of 160170 miles.
It is worth mentioning that the new battery pack has only an one-year warranty, which makes Dobson suspect that the battery pack is not new, but refurbished. In addition, when the car is fully charged, it can theoretically drive 207 miles, while his car has a range of only 160-170 miles after changing the battery, which is 14% less than the new car, so he thinks this also proves that the battery pack is not new.
