CTOnews.com, November 8, OPDC, led by the mayor of London, recently received 36 million pounds (CTOnews.com Note: about 323 million yuan) from the British government's Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF) to promote a new project: the development and utilization of waste heat from data centers to meet the heating needs of surrounding residents.

It is reported that the project will cover 10000 new homes, 250000 square meters of commercial space and a hospital, making full use of waste heat generated by nearby data centers and converting them into heating and hot water.

"We will recycle a lot of waste heat from local data centers and convert it into heat and energy, which is an exciting and innovative example of supporting the mayor's net zero emissions target," David Lunts, chief executive of OPDC, said in an interview.

This major project is expected to provide 95GWh heat in five phases between 2026 and 2040. The Old Oak development project will create 22000 new jobs.

The Mayor of London Local Energy Accelerator (LEA) funding scheme, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, has also provided nearly £400000 to finance the development of technical expertise in the OPDC-led heating network.

LEA's funding for the development of clean, locally generated energy projects, including heating networks, has just been extended to March 2024, with an additional £3 million from the mayor of London.
