Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, November 8 (Xinhua) in the context of the downturn in the consumer storage market, high-bandwidth memory (HBM) technology has become a new driving force, and the latest report indicates that Samsung and Micron are actively preparing to expand HBM DRAM.
Tu Yuan: Samsung recently reported that Samsung Electronics spent 10.5 billion won to acquire some factories and equipment of Samsung display in Cheonan, South Korea, in order to expand HBM production capacity. Samsung Electronics also plans to invest another 700 billion to 1 trillion won in new packaging lines.
CTOnews.com previously reported that Mr. Hwang Sang-jun, vice president of Samsung Electronics and head of DRAM's product and technology team, revealed that Samsung had developed a HBM3E with a speed of 9.8Gbps and planned to start providing samples to customers.
Samsung is developing HBM4 with the goal of launching it by 2025. It is reported that Samsung Electronics is actively developing a variety of HBM4 technologies, including non-conductive adhesive film (NCF) assembly technology optimized for high-temperature thermal properties and hybrid bonding (HCB).
Meguiar is also actively preparing for HBM production and opened a new factory in Taichung on November 6. Meguiar said the new facility will integrate advanced testing and packaging functions and will focus on mass production of HBM3E and other products. The expansion is designed to meet the growing needs of applications such as artificial intelligence, data centers, edge computing, and cloud services.
Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra revealed that the company plans to start shipping large quantities of HBM3E in early 2024. Meguiar's HBM3E technology is currently being certified by NVIDIA. The initial HBM3E product will be designed with a 8-Hi stack with a capacity of 24GB and a bandwidth exceeding 1.2TB / s.
In addition, Micron plans to launch a larger 36GB 12-Hi stack HBM3E in 2024. In an earlier statement, Micron predicted that the new HBM technology would contribute "hundreds of millions of dollars" to revenue by 2024.
