CTOnews.com, Nov. 7, Apple's new entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro laptop with a standard M3 chip has been released, but some users who have received the goods have found that the new laptop is pre-installed with the macOS Ventura system and cannot be updated to the macOS Sonoma system through the OTA upgrade.

According to user @ aaronp613 of the X website, at least some 14-inch MacBook Pro laptops with M3 chips are pre-installed with an unreleased macOS Ventura version 13.5 system. When users try to update to the macOS Sonoma system in the system setup application, the macOS Ventura 13.5 system is listed as the latest version available instead of the macOS Sonoma 14.1 system.

CTOnews.com noticed that Daniel Rotar, the host of YouTube channel ZONEofTECH, also encountered this problem, as did other users on the X website and MacRumors forums.

With the release of the macOS Ventura 13.5 in July, Apple seems to have started stocking a 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M3 chip a few months ago.

It is not clear when Apple will solve the problem, said software researcher Nicol á s Á lvarez. Affected users can download the installation assistant for the macOS Sonoma 14.1 system for the M3 chip and install the update manually.
