CTOnews.com November 7, according to Patentlyapple reports, today the United States Patent and Trademark Office officially granted Apple a patent related to a possible future Vision Pro feature, which will allow two Vision Pro users to have a private conversation in a virtual meeting.

CTOnews.com notes that the patent provides a way for one Vision Pro user to have a private conversation with a second Vision Pro user. To initiate a private conversation, in a virtual meeting, the first user's HMD / Vision Pro acquires sensor data from a sensor (e.g., accelerometer, gyroscope, etc.) indicating the first user's movement. For example, sensors in head-mounted displays (HMDs) can determine whether a user's head is moving or tilting. Based on this movement, the HMD determines whether to initiate a private conversation between the first user and the second user. Returning to the previous example, the first user's HMD may determine that the first user is attempting to have a private conversation with the second user because the first user's head is tilted toward the second user, and the second user may be sitting next to the first user. This movement may indicate that the first user is trying to approach the second user in order to whisper something in the second user's ear. Thus, upon determining that the first user attempted to say something private to the second user, the HMD activates a virtual privacy mask in a computer-generated reality (CGR) environment that includes avatars of the first and second users. A privacy hood is a visual cue that the first and second users are having a private conversation, in which neither party's voice is projected out of the privacy hood into the rest of the CGR environment for others to hear. Instead, the HMDs of the first and second users can establish a two-way private audio channel, so that the two users can talk freely without worrying that others participating in the CGR environment can hear what they are saying.

Figure 1 of Apple's patent, shown below, shows two users having a private conversation in a computer-generated reality (CGR) environment.

It's worth noting that many people immediately think of "Memoji" or cartoon-like characters when they think of "avatars." But we know that Apple Vision Pro's avatar is extremely realistic and can greatly enhance the immersion of virtual meetings.
