Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Nov. 7, according to Sony's latest patent filing, the company may apply PS VR2 features such as eye tracking to non-VR games. If these functions are implemented, PS VR2 players will enjoy a better gaming experience in a number of games on PlayStation 5.
Sony launched PS VR2 Touch Show on February 22 this year, which supports a number of native VR games, including Horizon: mountain call, Gran Turismo 7 and Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate. Early reports showed that PS VR2 sales were poor, and retailers' low inventory seemed to be a factor. Sony restocked the PS VR2 with retailers in the weeks and months after its launch, claiming that sales of the head show exceeded expectations. Although there is a lack of new PS VR2 games developed by first-party studios, Sony seems to be preparing a major update.
Sony's latest patent filing suggests that the company may plan to apply eye tracking and other PS VR2 features to non-VR games to improve game performance when using head displays. The patent details a system that focuses and renders the area the player is looking at at a higher resolution, known as the line of sight (ROG). This process is already supported in native PS VR2 games, such as Horizon: the call of the Mountain, but patents point out that it can also be applied to non-VR games to improve frame rates at high resolution. In addition, according to Sony's patent, PlayStation 5 games may be "patched, upgraded or reproduced" to support eye tracking and VR functions.
This feature introduced in the patent will allow PlayStation 5 hosts to allocate less processing power to areas outside the ROG of PS VR2 users, and players may enjoy a smoother gaming experience because of higher frame rates as processing power is transferred to ROG. In addition, in movie action games, such as Sonny Santa Monica's "God of War", the graphic details in ROG will also be improved to get a clearer picture.
What CTOnews.com needs to point out is that patents don't mean Sony will launch this feature.
