CTOnews.com, November 7 (Xinhua)-- at today's first OpenAI developer conference, OpenAI launched Assistants API, a "purpose-built AI tool" that leverages "additional knowledge" to help developers build AI helpers in their applications.

OpenAI said that Assistans API provides "code interpreter (Code interpreter)", "Retrieval" and "function call (Function calling)" functions to help users handle "heavy work":

The Code interpreter allows developers to write and run Python code in sandboxie's execution environment, generate graphs, process files with different data and formats, and allow AI assistants to iteratively run code to solve challenging code and mathematical problems.

Retrieve can use knowledge outside the model to enhance assistants, such as proprietary domain data, product information, or user-provided documents.

Function call enables the helper to call a function defined by the developer and merge the function response into its message.

OpenAI said Assistans API aims to achieve flexibility, including "natural language-based data analysis applications", "code assistants", "artificial intelligence-based vacation planners", "DJ", "smart canvases" and so on.

It is reported that one of the key updates introduced by Assistants API is to provide persistent and infinitely long threads (Threading), which allows developers to hand over thread state management to OpenAI and solve the problem of context window length constraints.

Romain, director of OpenAI developer experience, demonstrated Assistants API live, claiming that developers only need to enter the name and profile of the chat assistant, select the model they need to use, and then select the tools they need to automatically generate the relevant AI assistant.

OpenAI says that, like the rest of the platform, data and files uploaded to OpenAI API will never be used to train its models, and developers can delete data as they see fit.

CTOnews.com found that OpenAI also claimed that Assistants API will be available in beta today so that users can experience it on the Assistants Playground home page without writing any code.
