CTOnews.com, Nov. 6 (Xinhua)-- Star Motors announced today that it has signed a lithium-ion battery unit supply agreement with South Korean battery manufacturer SK On to provide batteries for the upcoming Polar Star 5 model. The four-door GT, based on the Precept concept car, will feature SK On's ultra-long 56cm battery unit, which can provide high energy density, achieve "excellent mileage", support fast charging and efficient discharge, and "excellent safety", according to an official press release.

No specific flight range figures have been given, but according to previous reports, the model will be equipped with a dual-motor, all-wheel drive power system with a power of up to 650 kilowatts and a torque of 900 Nm. At the same time, the target could have a range of up to 373km (CTOnews.com Note: about 600km).

Production of Star 5 is currently planned for 2025, which is later than previously hinted at 2024.

In 2021, SK Group invested in Polaris through a new mobile fund and signed a Memorandum of understanding (MOU) "to strengthen their cooperation in the field of electric vehicles." In other words, in addition to the LG Energy Solution and Ningde era, more polar star cars may be equipped with SK On batteries in the future.

CTOnews.com noted that Polar sold nearly 14000 all-electric vehicles in the third quarter of 2023, while its plan for 2023 is to deliver 60000-70000 vehicles.
