CTOnews.com, Nov. 6 (Xinhua)-- BMW is full of confidence in its new battery as the key to its future generation of all-electric vehicles. BMW says competitors such as Tesla need to catch up with the new batteries.

BMW's first cylindrical battery samples will power its next generation of electric vehicles in 2025 and are expected to provide a 20% energy boost and a 30% battery life boost. The new battery is also expected to achieve a 50 per cent reduction in battery costs and a 60 per cent reduction in production-related carbon emissions compared with the current generation of prismatic batteries.

When asked by the media Automotive News Europe how BMW Group could close the gap with competitors such as Tesla, Milan Nedelkovic, head of BMW Group's production department, said BMW did not need to catch up with anyone. "Tesla needs to narrow the gap with us. In fact, we don't see any advantage of Tesla." He said.

CTOnews.com noted that at last week's media event, the BMW executive shared some optimistic insights about BMW's battery technology. He also expressed excitement about BMW's new generation of motors, which he believes are different from other products on the market.

While BMW is enthusiastic about its new generation of batteries, the German carmaker is likely to face challenges in advancing the production of its new electric vehicle batteries.
