CTOnews.com, November 6 (Xinhua)-- Chinese companies accounted for six of the top 10 patent holders as of August this year, according to global cyber security patent data compiled by Nikkei News in cooperation with information service provider LexisNexis, Nikkei Asia reported on Sunday local time.

This data covers patents registered in 95 countries and regions around the world, including China, the United States, Japan, the European Union and so on. Among them, IBM took the top spot with 6363 network security patents, followed by Huawei with 5735 and Tencent with 4803.

Ant Group: 3922 patents

State Grid Corporation: 3696 patents

Alibaba Group: 3122 patents

CIC: 3042 patents

Hiroko Osaka, Asia Marketing Director of LexisNexis's Japan intellectual property Department, said that at present, especially since 2018, the total number of patents filed by Chinese companies has begun to rise sharply.

According to reports, Huawei has advantages in automobile-related technologies, as well as a large number of network patents related to wireless and other communication technologies. At present, more than 350 companies around the world have been licensed by Huawei, and Huawei will sign patent license agreements with major suppliers in various countries, including Renault, BMW and Subaru.

In addition, Tencent's patents focus on technologies such as email and authentication, while Ant Financial Services Group owns many patents related to query language for database processing requests.
