It is reported that at the recent Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm launched the third generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform and Snapdragon X Elite, raising the application of AI technology to a new level. It's a pleasure to meet you here. Today, on behalf of Qualcomm, I would like to share with you the progress of Qualcomm in enabling the next round of digital transformation on the edge.
At present, the general large model has a high degree of discussion, has a large scale of parameters, and needs strong computational support. The intelligent terminals within everyone's reach in our lives, whether they are smart phones, personal computers (PC), or intelligent networked cars, etc., these terminals on the edge of the network, through AI enabling on the terminal side, can significantly improve the user experience, make the intelligent terminal become the user's personalized digital assistant, and then promote the digital transformation, improve productivity and cost-effectiveness, and reduce computing costs. Promote a new round of economic growth.
The development of cloud AI and edge AI is different. The development of AI in the cloud is very important and will continue to play an important role in the future. At the same time, the development of AI terminals on the edge side is also very important. With the evolution of technology, the terminal device that everyone uses every day, the information it receives is real-time, for example, knowing the real-time location information of the user, or accepting similar content limited to the terminal side. The general large model in the cloud can not get these real-time information, and the data obtained from the training of the large model in the cloud is usually based on the information in a certain period of time in the past and can not match the current environment of the user. The reliability of cloud AI will be affected by connectivity to some extent, while terminal-side AI has more advantages in terms of reliability, contextualization and personalization, because our terminals are also constantly changing.
At present, the use scene of smart phone is the most representative in the intelligent terminal: dominated by application (App), human-computer interaction means that users choose to enter different App according to different needs and purposes. There are dozens of different App in everyone's mobile phone. For example, if you need to book a restaurant and an air ticket tonight, you need to go to two different App. This is the intelligent terminal application scenario that we are familiar with.
The development of generative AI has further improved the way of human-computer interaction, whether from language input or text input, which has changed the user experience to some extent. These changes will be reflected in smart phones, smart cars, personal computers (PC) and other smart terminals. In the future, human-computer interaction will be more natural and personalized, and will be able to communicate directly with users. You may not want to share your interactions and personal habits with Smart online cars to the cloud. If we can achieve interactive artificial intelligence on the local terminal, it will bring more convenience to our travel, whether it is safe driving or intelligent travel. Terminal-side AI helps to reduce the cost of the data center and ensure data security. Therefore, we believe that the next generation of PC will enter a new era of AI PC. AI PC in this era is characterized by intelligence, networking, high performance, high efficiency, multimedia and security, which is of great significance for office efficiency, personal privacy and so on. It can improve the personalized experience. Based on the specific location, scene and work done by the user, AI PC can not only provide the data needed, but also help to improve productivity, generate documents, produce presentation documents, carry out information retrieval and so on.
Last week, we launched two new products at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit. The first is the third-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, the flagship chip Qualcomm builds every year for smartphones. It greatly improves the computing support for generative AI. As you all know, at the Mobile World Congress held at the end of February this year, Qualcomm demonstrated the world's first Stable Diffusion terminal-side demonstration running on an Android mobile phone, supporting the generation of an image with more than 1 billion parameters, performing 20-step reasoning in 15 seconds, converting the input text into an image and displaying it. The third generation of Snapdragon 8PowerAI, which we released last week, can generate 20 token per second. The image generation that took 15 seconds to complete on a smartphone at the beginning of this year can now be achieved in less than 1 second, and supports running models with up to 10 billion parameters. This is the support provided by computing power and new technologies for generative AI on the terminal side.
At the same time, we also released the next generation AI PC chip, Snapdragon X Elite, which is designed for personal computers and laptops, with industry-leading CPU, GPU, NPU and advanced connections, and leading other chip products in computing power and performance. Qualcomm AI engine has a computing power of 75 TOPS and supports a generative AI model with more than 13 billion parameters on the terminal side, which has achieved a great breakthrough in computing power support and computing power. In the case of equal computing power, it can also save electricity and have a longer standby time. All these enhancements are supporting the next generation of AI PC to become more portable and personalized mobile office tools, thereby increasing productivity.
In addition to smart phones, personal computers and other personal terminal devices, Qualcomm believes that 5G+AI can empower a variety of industries, and intelligent terminals, with the blessing of generative AI, will certainly go deep into thousands of industries and enable various industry applications in the vertical market. For example, in industrial applications, AI+5G connectivity will bring more new opportunities for change, will support more flexible and efficient factories, provide key functions through machine learning and generative AI, and a high-performance 5G network built specifically for industrial scenarios that can provide high reliability, low latency, high capacity, scalability and security.
In Qualcomm's view, as the generative AI enters the terminal side and combines with the generative AI in the cloud general model, it will promote the digital transformation of Qianhang Baiye. For example, in the fields of retail, security, energy and utilities, supply chain, asset management, etc., through the specific application of 5G wireless connection and generative AI, real-time data analysis, supply chain efficiency, intelligent and reliable control, infrastructure optimization and other application scenarios will be realized, thus promoting digital transformation.
Today, four years after 5G has been commercially available, China has built the world's largest 5G network. From the perspective of technological development, we often say "grinding one G in 10 years". After four years of development, 5G has evolved to midfield. At present, the mobile communication industry often mentions "5G Advanced", which is a new stage of 5G evolution. Compared with the 5G network deployed a few years ago, 5G Advanced can make efficient use of more spectrum, support faster download speeds, lower latency, and support more industrial application scenarios. The development of these technologies will promote the progress of the whole industry.
In addition, when it comes to the development of new technologies, especially the application of new technologies on the industrial side, we have to mention new energy vehicles and intelligent network-connected vehicles. New energy and intelligent network connection, the development of these two technologies is just at the same time. Therefore, when these two technologies are combined, it will greatly promote the progress of the automobile industry. We believe that the entire automobile industry is ushering in major changes, which also brings great opportunities for the development of China's automobile industry. The development of advanced driving assistance, autopilot and other technologies will also bring more efficient, safer and more comfortable driving experience.
