Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens and soft media users for 1520111 clue delivery! CTOnews.com, November 5 (Xinhua)-- India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that its film censorship board has been granted the right to remove pirated films from platforms such as YouTube. Copyright holders, agents, "and / or any other person" may file a complaint by filling out a paper form.

The ministry added that if the complainant is not the copyright owner or is not authorized by the copyright holder, a personal hearing may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

CTOnews.com noted that India's Film camera (Amendment) Act was first introduced in 2019 to update the Film camera Act of 1952 to better protect filmmakers. The main goal of these amendments is to reduce rampant online movie piracy, but they also include measures related to film certification.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting first drew attention to article 6AB of the revised Film Law:

No one shall use or abet the use of infringing copies of any film to display to the public for profit-(a) in an exhibition place that is not licensed under this Act or the rules made thereunder; (b) in a manner that constitutes copyright infringement under the copyright Act of 1957 or any other law then in force.

"in addition, the new section 7 (1B) (ii) inserted in the Cinematography Act provides that the government may take appropriate action to delete / prohibit access to such infringing copies displayed / hosted on the platform in violation of Section 6AB above," the notice added.

In the statement, officials referred directly to YouTube and Telegram. "under the revised film law, CBFC district officials have the right to issue an order to delete pirated films from any source, such as Telegram and YouTube, upon receipt of a complaint. The platform is required to take action and delete illegal reprints within 48 hours." An official said.

Non-copyright owners can also lodge complaints, which also applies to people who remove infringing content without the authorization of copyright owners, the statement said.
