Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Alejandro86 and OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, Nov. 5 (Xinhua)-- X (Twitter) is working on a plan to generate new revenue by selling obsolete accounts, Forbes reported.

Emails sent by employees show that a team within X called @ Handle Team has begun to develop a processing market to buy unused account names from the original owner. X's inactive account policy encourages users to log in for at least 30 days to prevent their accounts from being deleted.

In some cases, X sends bidding information to potential buyers via email, asking for a fixed fee of $50, 000 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about RMB 365000). X didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

It is rumored that X has been planning to implement such a plan for several months. As early as November 2022, Musk posted on the social media site that "a large number of" accounts were occupied by "robots" and planned to "start releasing them."

In January, Musk plans to release as many as 1.5 billion user names, and X will begin to remove invalid accounts from the site from May.

As of Friday night, X's user name registration policy still said, "Unfortunately, we are currently unable to release inactive user names."
