CTOnews.com, Nov. 5 (Xinhua)-- Apple said in an internal memo today that it is preparing to fix a problem that caused Apple Watch to consume too much power when updating to watchOS 10.1s.

Apple said the problem would be fixed in subsequent watchOS updates, but did not mention any details, so it was unclear what the root cause of the problem was, how many customers were affected, and whether all Apple Watch models were affected.

According to user feedback, the problem seems to have affected various models of Apple Watch, including older models such as Apple Watch Series 5 and the latest Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Since the release of watchOS 10.1 in late October, CTOnews.com has often seen users complain about power consumption on major platforms.

For example, a user named Martin Cooper wrote on X, "watchOS 10.1 is killing my Apple Watch battery", "from 100% to 50% in less than 60 minutes."

A user named bo_tanaka said that after upgrading to WatchOS 10.1 in the morning, he found that his watch only lasted about two hours. Some users on macrumors also said that the battery dropped from 89% to 7% an hour after the update, and from 100% to 16% within 2.5 hours after charging overnight. Another Ultra2 user said it only took four hours for his battery to run from 100% to 10%.

It is worth mentioning that Apple mentioned in the developer release Notes for iOS 17.1 that the update fixed a possible "increased power consumption" issue when an Apple Watch running watchOS 10.1 was paired with an iPhone running iOS 17, but obviously completely resolved the problem, so another watchOS update was needed.

Apple is preparing to release iOS 17.1.1, and the Apple Watch issue is likely to be fixed in the watchOS 10.1.1 update, but due to the ongoing Beta testing of watchOS 10.2, it is not expected to be released until December at the earliest.
