Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens, soft media users 1520111, Alejandro86 for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, November 4 (Xinhua)-- YouTube has announced that it has stepped up its worldwide crackdown on ad blockers, causing hundreds of thousands of people to uninstall ad blockers, WIRED reported on Friday local time.

Ad blockers uninstalled hundreds of thousands of users in October, a "record number", according to Advertising Intercept. At the same time, the number of newly installed ad blockers is at an all-time high, as people are looking for alternatives that will not trigger YouTube anti-ad blocking pop-ups.

Several ad blocker providers have disclosed more detailed data. According to Ghostery, one of the interceptors, more than 90 per cent of users said the tool failed on YouTube in a survey of the reasons for the uninstall. At the same time, users are keen to find feasible solutions, leading many to switch to Microsoft's Edge browser, with the number of Ghostery installations on Edge surging 30 per cent last month compared with September. For most of October, uninstall and install 3-5 times more times a day than usual.

AdGuard, another well-known ad blocker, says its tools have about 75 million users, including 4.5 million paying users, and typically about 6000 people uninstall their extensions from Chrome browsers every day. Andrey Meshkov, the company's chief technology officer, said that from October 9 to the end of the month, about 11000 people a day unloaded AdGuard,10 soared to 52,000 times a day on June 18.

But like Ghostery, there has been a surge in AdGuard installations as users look for alternatives. On October 18 and 27, AdGuard on Chrome was installed about 60,000 times. Subscribers increase when people realize that AdGuard's paid tools are (currently) unaffected by YouTube.

CTOnews.com previously reported that YouTube spokesman Christopher Lawton said the ad blocker violated the platform's terms of service and that the company offered a $13.99-a-month YouTube Premium program for users who wanted an ad-free experience. "Advertising supports a diverse ecosystem of global creators, enabling billions of viewers to access their favorite content."

However, in the face of anti-advertising blocking measures after YouTube upgrade, users are not helpless. Twitter user @ endermanch, for example, tweeted that there was an easy way to bypass YouTube blocking by changing the browser ID (UA) to Windows Phone through an officially created extension.
