CTOnews.com, November 4, Microsoft's current update for Win10 and Win11 systems, although it fixes many problems in the previous version, may also trigger a new BUG, so users can return to the previous version through a rollback operation.

According to the latest list published by the US Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO), Microsoft has obtained a new technology patent outlining the cloud rollback mechanism involving Windows updates, which can be automatically restored to the previous normal point in time, thus improving the user upgrade experience.

CTOnews.com briefly introduces the technology patent as follows: the cloud rollback system can configure cloud resource configuration and roll back to the "last known good" upgrade version to improve the user experience.

This means that the system will reconfigure the relevant cloud resources and roll back to the previous version more quickly after receiving user feedback, reducing the impact of bad upgrades on the user experience.

The cloud rollback system collects performance data from different cloud-based computers to determine the problem that caused the operating system crash and collects this data for each of a series of upgrade events that are currently deployed or in the process of deployment.

The eligibility data collected for each deployed upgrade event is continuously tracked and analyzed, and a rollback is performed when the collected eligibility data meets the predefined qualifications.

For example, the system collects data from each Windows 11 version update sent. The data is then filtered through a set of eligibility criteria, and if all goes well, the system marks the new version of Windows 11 as the last known good upgrade.

If the device crashes, the system automatically rolls it back to the last known good upgrade. The last known good upgrade is stored on a cloud-based platform, and users don't have to worry about not storing the backup image on the hard drive.
