CTOnews.com, Nov. 3, JetBrains has officially launched a cross-platform development tool, Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP), which allows developers to reuse code between different platforms while retaining the advantages of "native applications." At present, Kotlin Multiplatform has entered a stable phase, and it is officially announced that users can use it in the development environment.

The core of Kotlin Multiplatform consists of several parts, including compiler, language function, API, IDE and so on. This development tool is designed as a tool with "high flexibility and adaptability". Developers only need to write native code when necessary.

It is reported that Kotlin Multiplatform can provide cross-platform capabilities, but this development tool also allows developers to maintain the flexibility of native application development, thus ensuring application performance and the freedom to use platform-specific SDK (CTOnews.com Note: sensors such as Bluetooth, GPS, etc., need to use platform-specific SDK).

Officials highlighted the high flexibility of Kotlin Multiplatform, a development tool that boasts support for functions ranging from "code reuse" to "native application development" and is able to fully share application UI and a certain amount of code across platforms.

Officially, Kotlin Multiplatform allows developers to maintain a single code base on different platforms, especially the logical parts of related applications, which can also significantly reduce the time it takes for developers to write and maintain the same application for different platforms.

It is reported that at present, developers can reuse key code on Android, iOS, desktop JVM, server-side JVM and web pages. JetBrains is continuing to develop Kotlin Multiplatform and is expected to launch a Beta version of Compose Multiplatform for iOS in 2024.

Officials are also developing Kotlin / Wasm to make it easier for Kotlin Multiplatform to develop web pages, and JetBrains is expected to launch a Compose Multiplatform for Web Alpha version next year.
