CTOnews.com November 3 news, Samsung Electronics revealed to investors this week that it will transition and promote lithography technology in the near future, and plans to launch products using second generation 3nm process technology (SF3) and mass production version of 4nm process (SF4X) to the market in the second half of 2024.

Source: Samsung Electronics wrote in a statement:

We plan to start mass production of the second generation 3nm process and the fourth generation 4nm process for HPC in the second half of this year to further enhance our technological competitiveness.

Due to the rebound in mobile demand and the continued growth in HPC demand, the market is expected to turn to growth.

CTOnews.com Note: Samsung's upcoming SF3 process technology is a major upgrade to its existing SF3E production node, which, according to the information released so far, is only used to make small chips for cryptocurrency mining.

Samsung claims that the SF3 will provide greater design versatility, providing different channel widths for different full-gate (GAA) transistors in the same cell type.

Although Samsung did not directly compare SF3 and SF3E, Samsung said that SF3 has significant improvements over SF4 (4LPP, 4nm, low power consumption): including a 22% increase in performance at the same power and complexity, or a 34% reduction in power consumption at the same frequency and number of transistors, and a 21% reduction in logic area.
