Apple's shipments fell 11% compared with the third quarter of 2022, partly due to delays in the launch of the iPhone 15 series compared with the iPhone 14 series, which delayed shipments to the fourth quarter of 2023, according to Counterpoint analysts.

On the performance of shipments in the third quarter of 2023, research analyst Matthew Orf said: "as consumer demand is still low, mobile phone brands are cautious about increasing shipments in the current quarter." Although the upgrade rate of operators' user terminals has increased slightly compared with the previous quarter, it is still far below normal because consumers choose to extend the replacement cycle rather than upgrade to a new model. Maurice Klaehne, a senior research analyst, said: "although overall smartphone shipments have fallen by 19 per cent, some brands have recorded growth. Motorola and Nokia HMD are growing against the current with their increased influence in the prepaid market and national retail channels. Samsung and TCL are facing challenges at the low end of the market, and their related models are gradually withdrawing from the market."
