CTOnews.com, Nov. 3 (Xinhua)-- Apple today released its fourth quarter of fiscal 2023 (third quarter of 2023) results, showing a sharp decline in Mac revenue compared with the same period last year.

Sales of the Mac business in the fourth quarter were $7.6 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 55.632 billion yuan), down 34 percent from $11.5 billion in the same period last year (currently about 84.18 billion yuan). Mac's full-year revenue in 2023 was $29.4 billion (currently about 215.208 billion yuan), down from $40.2 billion in 2022 (currently about 294.264 billion yuan).

Luca Maestri, Apple's chief financial officer, blamed it on excessive market competition and the high proportion of pent-up sales released last year.

Maestri said there were supply chain problems in the second quarter of last year, which led to a surge in Mac sales after recovering in the third quarter, while Apple did not have supply chain-related problems this year.

Apple released new M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max Mac in late October, but sales of these devices will be reflected in the fourth quarter. Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive, told CNBC that he expected the Mac's performance to improve during the Christmas shopping season.

Cook is confident: "I think the Mac business will improve significantly in the fourth quarter. We have launched the M3 series of chips, as well as new Mac products with this chip."
