Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Nov. 2 (Xinhua)-- Boeing has confirmed that it has waived its license to operate a satellite network approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which plans to deploy 147Leo satellites.
In fact, on September 15, Boeing sent a letter to FCC demanding that the license granted in 2021 be waived, and the company had to pay $2.2 million to the U.S. Government through forfeiture of the deposit (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 16.104 million yuan).
Boeing initially applied for the license in 2017 with the goal of serving consumers through the proposed satellite Internet service, but the market has changed dramatically since then. SpaceX already has nearly 5000 satellites in orbit and has served more than 2 million customers.
Although Boeing has stopped its satellite Internet service plan, it still sees the potential of the technology. The company's FCC license will allow Boeing to use part of the "V-band" spectrum to transmit high-speed broadband, which ranges from 40 to 75GHz. Last year, Boeing launched a test satellite to test the use of the V-band spectrum.
"our V-band test mission provides valuable data and experience," said Michelle Parker (Michelle Parker), vice president of mission systems at Boeing. "at present, we do not immediately pursue the V-band constellation, and we will continue to invest in opportunities to promote the possibility of spatial connectivity."
Boeing has taken steps to deal with its test satellite, but the company has hinted that the project may one day be restarted. " We believe that with the increasing demand for satellite broadband connections, V-band will one day be commercialized, "Parker added." Boeing continues to evaluate its spectrum usage to meet business objectives and industry regulations. we are currently giving priority to more direct growth steps. "
At the same time, SpaceX plans to launch thousands of satellites that use the V-band spectrum, and its existing satellites use lower radio frequencies.
