CTOnews.com, October 31 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Porsche announced today that future models will use Google's navigation, voice assistant and ecosystem. This integration of Google's ecosystem will include Google Maps, Google Assistant and a variety of apps available through Google's Play store.

CTOnews.com noted that earlier this year, Porsche said it was considering using Google's software as its in-car infotainment system, indicating that its parent company, Volkswagen, is still trying to solve its software problems. Today, Volkswagen said it plans to cut about 2000 jobs at its internal software provider Cariad, which will delay the launch of its new architecture.

Just a few months ago, Volkswagen launched a new app store designed to serve its car brands. The plan is to enable drivers to find third-party applications suitable for use in vehicles, including TikTok, Spotify and so on. Dirk Hilgenberg, chief executive of Cariad, said at the time that "this is the new level of digital experience we want to show" while allowing support for native Google apps.

In recent years, as more and more drivers (and passengers) expect the features and features of their cars to be comparable to their smartphones, applications specially designed for car use have become more and more popular. Software like Apple's CarPlay and Android Auto largely bypassed the native in-car experience, making carmakers unhappy that they don't want to cede all of this to technology companies.

Porsche is the latest carmaker to use Google's built-in system (GoogleBuilt-in) or Android Automotive as its vehicle system by integrating applications from Google's Play Store, along with Honda, General Motors, Polar Star, Volvo and Ford.

Porsche plans to launch the first vehicles equipped with Google's built-in system in the middle of this century, although the company did not say which models will be the first to carry the system.

It is still possible for Porsche to allow users to use Apple's CarPlay and Android Auto to mirror their phone screens to the screens of vehicles. So far, only GM has said it will disable phone mirroring.
