Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens West window past, partial Kesuohuang 4100 eyes of clues delivery! CTOnews.com, October 31 (Xinhua)-- Samsung Electronics today reported third-quarter results for 2023, with third-quarter profit down 78% from a year earlier, but the company still had its best performance so far this year as the battered memory chip market began to show signs of recovery.

Samsung Electronics's combined revenue in the third quarter was 67.4 trillion won (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 365.308 billion yuan), an increase of 12% month-on-month, mainly due to the release of new smartphones and increased sales of high-end display products.

Due to strong sales of mobile flagship models and strong demand for monitors, operating profit rose to 2.43 trillion won (currently about 13.171 billion yuan) month-on-month, while losses in the equipment Solutions (DS) division narrowed.

Samsung said its memory business continued to reduce losses due to an increase in sales and average selling prices of high value-added products. System Semiconductor's profitability was affected by delays in the recovery of demand for major applications, but the new backlog of orders from the contract manufacturing business hit a quarterly high as a result of design breakthroughs.

The mobile phone panel business was affected by the release of major customers' new flagship models, resulting in a sharp increase in profits, while the loss of the large screen business narrowed this quarter.

Harman's quarterly operating profit hit an all-time high due to an overall increase in orders for car customers and consumer audio products such as portable speakers and an increase in sales of car audio products.

In the third quarter, Samsung Electronics' capital expenditure reached 11.4 trillion won (currently about 61.788 billion yuan), of which the device Solutions Division spent 10.2 trillion won and Samsung revealed that the company spent 700 billion won. The cumulative total for the period from January to September was 36.7 trillion won, of which 33.4 trillion won was allocated to the DS department and 1.6 trillion won to SDC. Capital expenditure for the whole of 2023 is expected to be about 53.7 trillion won, including 47.5 trillion won allocated to DS and 3.1 trillion won allocated to SDC.

Looking ahead to 2024, Samsung said that although macroeconomic uncertainty may persist, the memory market is expected to recover. DS will seek to expand sales of advanced node products and plans to meet the demand for high-performance, high-bandwidth products with industry-leading HBM production capacity by increasing sales of HBM3 and HBM3E.

For the contract manufacturing business, the second generation 3nm Gate All Around (GAA) process will begin mass production and will begin operation at its new plant in Taylor, Texas. In addition, in the advanced packaging business, production will start based on a number of orders received from HPC customers at home and abroad, including turnkey service orders that combine logic, HBM and 2.5D advanced packaging technology.
