Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Oct. 31, according to the The Verge website, there is a piece of information that has attracted attention in the antitrust lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice against Google. In 2018, Google CEO Sandal Pichai (Sundar Pichai) proposed to Apple CEO Tim Tim Cook that the Google search app be pre-installed on Apple's iPhone, but Cook did not accept the idea.
Tu Yuan Pexels Pichai made the proposal after Cook said he wanted Apple and Google to become "deep partners". He told Cook that the preinstalled Google search app would bring more traffic to Google and more revenue to Apple. Apple and Google have long had a search engine agreement in which Google pays $18 billion to $20 billion a year to become the default search engine on Apple devices, but Apple's share of revenue fell in 2018.
So, Pichai said, Cook should consider allowing Google to design an app or other native iPhone experience for iOS, which would allow people to use Google search more frequently. " We say that there is a good feature on Android that can increase usage, which is the Google search app. So I suggest that we can develop a Google search application for iOS. And we are committed to long-term support for this product, "Pichai said."
CTOnews.com noted that while many of Apple's own apps are pre-installed on Apple's iPhone, Apple has never pre-installed third-party apps, which may be the reason why the company did not accept Pichai's proposal.
According to Pichai, he meets with Cook about once a year to discuss the search agreement between Google and Apple, which is a focus of antitrust lawsuits. The Justice Department believes that Google has a monopoly on search, has become the "gatekeeper of the Internet" and has filed lawsuits against some "exclusive agreements" between companies such as Google and Apple.
Eddy Cue, Apple's head of services, testified in September that Apple used Google as its default search engine because the company "always thought it was the best" and had no "effective alternative."
Currently, Google is the default search engine on all Apple devices. Although users can change the search engine on Apple products, many users will not do so. If the lawsuit finds Google engaged in antitrust activities, the agreement between Apple and Google could be rescinded, requiring Apple to provide more search engine options in the device setup process.
