According to a document, the Group of Seven (G7) will agree on a code of conduct for companies to develop advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems on Monday. Governments are now working to reduce the risk of artificial intelligence technology being abused.
The document points out that, given the possible privacy and security risks posed by artificial intelligence, the voluntary code of conduct will be an important milestone in the management of artificial intelligence in major countries.
In May, the G7, made up of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as EU leaders launched the process at a ministerial forum called the Hiroshima artificial Intelligence process.
The 11:00 code of conduct "aims to promote safe, reliable and trusted artificial intelligence worldwide and to provide voluntary guidance to organizations developing state-of-the-art artificial intelligence systems, including state-of-the-art basic models and generative artificial intelligence systems," the document said.
In addition, the guidelines "will help to take full advantage of the benefits of these technologies and address the resulting risks and challenges". It urges enterprises to take appropriate measures to identify, assess and mitigate risks in the life cycle of artificial intelligence and to address abuse incidents and patterns after artificial intelligence products are put on the market.
Enterprises should publicly publish reports on the functions, limitations, use and abuse of artificial intelligence systems, and invest in the construction of powerful security control systems.
The European Union takes the lead in regulating this emerging technology with its strict artificial intelligence bill, while Japan, the United States and Southeast Asian countries promote economic growth with less intervention than the European Union.
Earlier this month, Vera Jourova, the European Commission's head of digital affairs, told the Internet Governance Forum in Kyoto, Japan, that a code of conduct was a solid foundation for ensuring security. It will act as a bridge until regulation is in place.
