On October 28, 2023, the 18th China Linux Kernel developers Conference (CLK) opened in Shenzhen. As the organizer of the conference, OPPO shared the Linux kernel optimization plan for ColorOS based on improved user experience, and announced the direction of programmable kernel technology, which may greatly improve the running efficiency of virtual machines, so as to solve Android's long-standing stutter problem from the bottom and continue to lead Android's smooth experience.

As one of the most influential summits in the field of Linux kernel in China, CLK takes "freedom, cooperation and innovation" as its concept, and takes the promotion and popularization of open source technology as its mission to promote mutual communication and progress among Linux kernel development enthusiasts. This Congress has set up the main forum, as well as four sub-forums: memory management, cloud and server, Arch & virtualization & I / O, debugging / eBPF / scheduling.

As the most widely used operating system at present, Linux has great value, including Android and other systems that can be seen everywhere in life are customized and extended based on Linux, so developers need to make continuous efforts to further expand its value from the perspectives of resource management and scheduling, artificial intelligence, ecology and so on.

At the conference, OPPO gave a keynote speech on memory optimization and kernel scheduling. Among them, Han Chuanhua, a senior bottom software engineer at OPPO, elaborated the dynamic large page scheme of OPPO, which provides a new idea for improving the efficiency of memory allocation and the performance of Android applications. And GM of OPPO platform software development center, Xu Minjia, an expert in software system optimization technology, shared ColorOS's scheme based on Linux kernel optimization based on user experience improvement.

At the same time, the ColorOS programmable kernel is also unveiled at the main forum, and OPPO will continue to evolve on the programmable kernel in the future, focusing on programmable scheduler, programmable memory management, programmable IO scheduling, programmable synchronization mechanism and other fields, to achieve extreme optimization for each mobile phone scene, and continue to provide users with a smoother and more stable system experience.

In fact, the programmable kernel is not a simple algorithm optimization, but a major transformation of the underlying technology, which requires not only long-term technology accumulation, but also huge R & D investment. Since its launch in 2013, ColorOS has always been based on user experience, continuously tuned and improved for fluency and stability, and even drilled down to the kernel level to find optimization solutions one by one, and modified the standard Linux kernel. There is no doubt that the ColorOS programmable kernel is the technical embodiment of ColorOS's accumulation in the past decade. Relying on the ColorOS programmable kernel, OPPO may solve the stutter problem caused by long-standing resource conflicts and limited computing power of Android phones, and the stability and fluency of the system will also be greatly improved.
