Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, October 29 (Xinhua)-- Apple released its Vision Pro virtual reality head display in June, which has a downward camera for hand tracking. Last year, The Information's Wayne Ma reported that the headdisplay would use these cameras to track users' bodies (which was rumored at the time), including legs, but Apple did not announce the feature at the launch. The report also describes Touxian's OpticID iris authentication system, which was officially confirmed at the press conference.

In a new report this week, Wayne Ma claimed that Apple actually removed full-body tracking from Vision Pro years ago because engineers couldn't make it reliable enough.

Wayne Ma also said Apple had planned to use body tracking to provide health and fitness-related features. For example, diseases such as Parkinson's disease can be detected through long-term analysis of exercise data. Despite rumors that Vision Pro will launch Apple Fitness +, Apple didn't mention fitness at its June launch.

CTOnews.com noted that at the same time, Meta plans to add upper-body tracking to Quest 3 with a software update in December, which will take advantage of the Quest 3's downward side camera. However, this feature does not track the user's legs, only the upper body. Meta also plans to launch the "generative legs" function in this update to guess the position of users' legs using artificial intelligence.

Meta is considered to be a leader in computer vision and machine learning, which may give it an advantage over Apple in introducing such features. It may also be that Apple executives have higher quality standards, and they think the current technology is not up to their standards.

The Wayne Ma report did not say whether Apple is still working on body tracking, or whether it has abandoned it.
