The OPPO A79 carries the Tianji 6020 chip and runs the ColorOS 13. 1 system based on Android 13. The phone has 8GB LPDDR4X memory and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage space, and can also expand the storage capacity through the microSD card, up to 1TB.

The OPPO A79 features a 6.72-inch 90Hz FHD+ LCD screen with a Panda Glass protection layer with a pixel density of 391 ppi and a peak brightness of 680 nits, which OPPO calls a "sunscreen".

The OPPO A79 comes with three cameras-a 5000 megapixel camera (Samsung ISOCELL JN1 50MP), a 2 megapixel depth (Omnivision OV02B1B) camera, and an 8 megapixel selfie camera. The machine has a built-in 5000 Ma battery and supports 33W wired fast charging.

In other aspects, the OPPO A79 uses a side fingerprint recognizer that supports 5G network connectivity, IP54 waterproof and dustproof rating, USB-C interface and 3.5mm headphone holes. The phone is also equipped with dual stereo speakers and a super volume mode that provides "more than 100% volume levels, 300% speakers and 200% handset calls".
