Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Alejandro86 for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com October 28 news, according to the British consumer organization Which? The latest findings, published Friday local time, suggest that criminals will use AI chatbots such as ChatGPT and Bard to create more convincing scams that pose a threat to the public and lack effective defense measures.

According to reports, local consumers often notice that the English grammar and spelling used in scam text messages and emails are often poor, which has long been an important way to identify scam content. However, with the advent of generative AI-based chatbots, criminals can now easily overcome this obstacle.

Consumer organization Which? ChatGPT was first asked to create a phishing email from PayPal via GPT 3.5, which ChatGPT refused and said "unable to help," and when the researchers removed the description of "phishing," ChatGPT was also unable to help.

So the researchers made a request to "tell the recipient that someone has logged into their PayPal account," and ChatGPT agreed and generated a professional-looking email titled "Important security notification-unusual activity found on your PayPal account."

Besides, Which? The researchers also asked ChatGPT and Bard to create lost package text messages, both of which generated "convincing" text content and suggested inserting a "redelivery" or "redelivery package" link into the text message, which criminals could use to direct victims to malicious websites.

Which? The survey is no accident-it comes at the time of the UK AI Summit, where governments, industry and researchers will come together to tackle the dangers of AI becoming smarter.

When Pexels commented on this survey, Which? Rocio Concha, Director of Policy and Advocacy, summed it up this way:

Our investigation clearly illustrates how this new technology makes it easier for criminals to defraud others. The government's upcoming AI summit must consider how to protect people from harm happening here and now, rather than focusing solely on the long-term risks of cutting-edge AI.

CTOnews.com previously reported that on Thursday local time, British Prime Minister Sunak announced plans to establish the world's first AI security institute and hold an AI security summit on November 1-2. The summit will bring together AI companies, governments, civil society and experts from around the world to discuss how to reduce the risks posed by AI through coordinated international action.
