CTOnews.com, Oct. 28, according to the Wall Street Journal, on October 27, local time, Google promised to invest a further $2 billion in OpenAI's rival AI startup Anthropic (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 14.64 billion yuan).

Claude, owned by ▲ Tuyuan Anthropic, reported that this was an addition to Google's earlier investment in the company and fuelled competition among AI startups, which are trying to make "the next major breakthrough" in this area.

Google has invested $500m upfront in Anthropic (currently about 3.66 billion yuan) and has agreed to add another $1.5 billion (currently about 10.98 billion yuan) over time, according to people familiar with the matter. Google's investment follows Amazon's commitment to invest $4 billion in the company last month.

CTOnews.com Note: Anthropic, founded by a former OpenAI engineer in 2021 and owned by Claude, a chat robot, is seen as a serious rival to ChatGPT developer OpenAI. Five years ago, OpenAI offered Amazon an offer to cooperate, but it was turned down. Later, OpenAI moved to Microsoft's arms, leading Microsoft to lead the current wave of generative AI.

To catch up, Amazon last week invested heavily in Anthropic, OpenAI's number one rival. Under the agreement, Amazon will invest $4 billion in Anthropic to compete with competitors such as Microsoft and Google in AI.
