Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Alejandro86 for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, October 28 (Xinhua) Park Yong-in, CEO of Samsung's System LSI department, recently confirmed that he will support satellite services for emergency contact from next year, implying that the Galaxy S24 series phones to be launched next year support two-way satellite communications.
Samsung revealed a few months ago that it had developed a way to achieve two-way satellite connectivity for smartphones, which could be applied to the Galaxy S24 model. However, it is not clear whether this feature applies to all Galaxy S24 series phones, or whether it is limited to Galaxy S24 Ultra models in this series.
CTOnews.com reported in August that South Korean smartphone brands are expected to launch a service next year to transfer data between 5G phones and satellites, South Korea's Minister of Science, Technology and Information Communications Lee Chong-Ho said in an interview with Yonhap News.
Since Samsung is the only large smartphone brand in South Korea (LG has closed its smartphone division), this suggests that Samsung may add satellite communications to its phones next year.
"I can't say for sure, but I know that the domestic industry is considering commercializing the service next year and is looking forward to developing a standard related to satellite communications next year," Lee Chong-Ho said in an interview. "
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, used in Samsung's Galaxy S23 series of phones released this year, can be connected to LEO (low Earth orbit) satellites to provide emergency calls and messaging services, but the Galaxy S23 series does not support this feature.
Samsung explained earlier this year that the satellite communications ecosystem is not yet mature and will wait for the ecosystem to be perfected before introducing new features. Samsung is understood to be working with Iridium Communications (Iridium Communications), which has a low-orbit satellite network to provide emergency communications services.
