Rajeev Chandrasekhar, India's deputy minister of information technology, said in a post on X (Twitter) that Tata will start producing iPhone in India to supply domestic and global markets.

CTOnews.com learned from a statement shared by Rajeev that Willon's board of directors approved the sale of Witron Telematics India Pte Ltd to Tata Electronics Pte Ltd for approximately $125 million (CTOnews.com Note: about RMB 915 million currently). Wizuang didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Apple has long seen India as its next major growth driver because it wants to shift some of its production away from China. Apple began assembling the iPhone in China with Wizuang in 2017 and has since expanded through contracts with companies such as Foxconn and Pegatron.

Weitong Capital is one of the assemblers of Apple's iPhone SE and iPhone 6s smartphones. Later, Lixun Precision announced the acquisition of part of Wittron's iPhone business for $472 million, making it Apple's first contract manufacturer in mainland China.
