CTOnews.com Oct.27, Lucid, a luxury electric car manufacturer, announced a recall of 1267 Lucid Air sedans produced between 2022 and 2023 on Thursday. The company confirmed that some Lucid Air cars may lack active temperature detection and control for rear seat heating.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a customer simply touched a discolored leather seat, resulting in a burned finger. Lucid is said to have been aware of the problem after a customer's rear seat was charred in August 2023. Then, until September, three more cars of the same model had their seats scorched or discolored because they overheated.

The company said certain software versions of some vehicles could cause the problem by failing to properly monitor rear seat temperatures "under certain circumstances." To this end, the company urges owners to upgrade their vehicles to newer versions as soon as possible.

In addition, Lucid promises to compensate owners who have previously replaced their own seats, and customers seeking compensation need to contact the company's customer service.

Earlier this year, Lucid recalled 637 vehicles due to a defective contactor switch in the motor that could cause sudden loss of power while driving, while last year, Lucid announced a recall of more than 200 vehicles due to problems in the assembly of front strut shock absorbers.
