The European Union announced earlier this month that it would launch a countervailing investigation into electric vehicles made in China, but because of the large number of companies involved, the European Commission chose a sampling method to determine the final target of the investigation. The news was first reported by MLex, a trade publication, which said the EU was "seeking to level the playing field for European electric car manufacturers".

Although Tesla shipped more electric cars from China to Europe than any other company, it is not one of the companies under investigation by the European Union, the South China Morning Post reported earlier today. In addition, if the EU investigation finds "subsidy evidence", it will calculate the corresponding "average countervailing duty", which will apply to all electric vehicles imported from China-including Volkswagen, Tesla, BMW and other major models made in China.

At the same time, the above three sampled companies will "bear individual responsibility" according to their respective subsidies.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Li Ke, executive vice president of BYD, said in an interview with overseas media earlier this month that BYD would continue to promote strong growth in Europe despite the EU's countervailing investigation into Chinese electric vehicles.
