Apple also launched macOS 14.2 Beta 1 SDK simultaneously with Xcode 15.1, mainly adding iMessage Contact Key Verification.

Apple officials said that after enabling iMessage Contact Key Verification, users can further verify whether the other party is the intended target.

iMessage Contact Key Verification uses key transparency to enable automatic verification to ensure that the iMessage Key Distribution Service returns device keys that have been logged to verifiable and auditable mappings.

When users enable iMessage Contact Key Verification, they receive notifications of any authentication errors directly in message conversation logs and Apple ID settings.

For added security, iMessage Contact Key Verification users can compare contact Captcha in person, on FaceTime, or through other secure calls. They also have the option to create or edit a contact and save the public key to open a CKV with that person.

iMessage Contact Key Verification requires iOS 17.2 Beta, macOS 17.2 Beta, or watchOS 17.2 Beta.

Known issues:

"Learn more" links do not link to Knowledge Base articles during beta.

When authenticating another user, the Contact Verification Code may not be displayed if one user interrupts the process.
