Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com October 26, Java software provider Azul recently released the "2023 Java status Survey report," based on a survey of 2062 Java professionals and Java-based application users worldwide.
The areas covered by the ▲ source Azul survey include Java adoption trends, the impact of Java pricing changes, cloud-based Java applications, and security considerations for common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVE).
The results of the report show that the adoption rate of Java remains strong, with 98% of respondents saying that they have used Java in their applications or infrastructure. Eighty-five percent of respondents using the LTS version of Java,64% used multiple versions of Java:
Java 11 released in September 2018 with a usage rate of 48%
Java 17 released in September 2020 with 45% utilization
Java 8, released in March 2014, has a usage of 40%.
But Oracle's Java market share is declining. Eighty-two per cent of respondents who used Oracle Java expressed concern about the new Java SE universal subscription pricing model launched in January.
▲ source Azul is affected by Oracle's latest pricing policy, with 72 per cent of respondents saying they are considering using open source alternatives such as OpenJDK, while 14 per cent of respondents who did not consider open source alternatives said it was because they did not expect to do so.
However, Oracle is still a strong player in the Java market, with 42% of respondents saying they still use at least one Oracle Java instance, 74% of organizations saying they also use at least one OpenJDK vendor's JDK, and about 60% of companies choose OpenJDK distributions over Oracle Java SE.
CTOnews.com also found that Log4Shell vulnerabilities have an extensive security impact on enterprises and organizations that apply Java. Nearly 80% of respondents said they were affected by a vulnerability in the Log4J library in 2021. Nearly half of the companies had to allocate extra engineering time after the loophole appeared.
Nearly 2/3 of survey respondents made it clear that third-party and open source applications and libraries are the most worrying sources of CVE. 57% of respondents ranked open source libraries and applications as the most worrying sources of CVE, while 51% of respondents identified third-party libraries and applications as the most worrying sources of CVE.
