Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, October 26 (Xinhua)-- scientists have successfully developed the world's first nano-photon electron accelerator (NEA), a coherent combination of particle acceleration and transverse beam constraints that can accelerate and guide electrons over a distance of more than 500 μ m in a channel 225 nm wide.

The NEA consists of a small microchip with smaller vacuum tubes, which are made up of thousands of separate "columns" that researchers can accelerate electrons by firing tiny laser beams at them.

The NEA main accelerator is about 0.02in (0.5mm) long, compared with 5400 1/10000 of the large Hadron Collider (LHC) of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

The inner width of the tiny tunnel is only about 225 nanometers. According to the National Institute of Nanotechnology, human hair is 80000 to 100000 nanometers thick.

The research project was jointly promoted by the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel and the Max Planck Institute of Optical Science in Germany. The maximum coherent energy gain observed in the experiment was 12.3 keV, equivalent to an increase of 43% from the initial 28.4 keV to 40.7 keV.
