CTOnews.com, October 26 (Xinhua)-- the Audi R8 is about to be withdrawn from the market, but before that, it seems that a limited edition model based on the R8 GT3 car is under development.

Recently, an R8 prototype was found testing at the Nurburgring. The new car looks very racing, but there are regular license plates on the front and rear of the car, proving that it is a model that can be used legally on the road.

Since its launch in 2013, R8 GT3 has successfully participated in high-profile series such as the World Endurance Championships, the Intercontinental GT Challenge and the European GT World Challenge. The car was developed by Audi in partnership with Scherer Sport, a sub-brand of the Scherer Group that sells Audi models suitable for racing and track days, similar to Ferrari's XX plan.

In terms of appearance, most of the new car's design is based on the Audi R8 GT3 EVO 2, which was unveiled in 2021, with a very exaggerated aerodynamic kit, a huge rear wing, almost as high as the roof, a pair of huge ventilation openings in the front cabin cover, huge cooling openings on both sides of the front enclosure, and a large deflector design on the outermost. The windows appear to be made of polycarbonate rather than glass, which fits the characteristics of a track-oriented supercar.

On the power side, the V10 logo on the prototype indicates that the model will definitely use a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine, and the power part should be slightly larger than the current mass-production Audi R8.

According to autocar, the final version of the R8 is expected to be released in 2024 and limited to 100. it is expected to be the road version of the R8 GT3 Evo 2 and the R8 GT3 Evo 2 will be launched in 2022. However, CTOnews.com noted that Audi confirmed earlier this year that the R8 series would end with the 612-horsepower GT RWD and did not disclose any plans to add any other commemorative models.
