This problem can cause the iPhone 15 series to be disabled when charging with wireless chargers built into some of the latest BMW and Toyota Supra models.

Apple told its authorized service provider in an internal memo that the problem affected only a "few" wireless chargers, not all BMW and Toyota Supra models. The memo did not provide the specific cause of the problem.

In iPhone, NFC chips provide support for functions such as Apple Pay and digital car keys. Affected users may receive an error message that "cannot set Apple Pay" in the wallet app, even if they have set up Apple Pay. Apple said the issue would be resolved in a software update later this year. Considering that the memo was issued within hours of today's release of iOS 17.1, it seems that subsequent updates, such as iOS 17.1.1 or iOS 17.2, are needed. In the meantime, Apple advised affected users to stop using in-car wireless charging.
