CTOnews.com, Oct. 26-Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon X Elite PC platform at this week's Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii. Qualcomm said the new chip outperformed its competitors in terms of performance and power consumption. Even the integrated GPU seems to exceed the competitor's current solution.

CTOnews.com noted that during the question and answer session, Qualcomm confirmed that any manufacturer can use a separate GPU to match Snapdragon X Elite, and Qualcomm will not prevent OEM manufacturers from using independent GPU.

This question was answered during the question and answer session by Kedar Kondap, Senior Vice President of Qualcomm Computing, and Nitin Kumar, Senior Director of Product Management, who made it clear that they would not prevent OEM vendors from using Snapdragon X Elite with independent GPU. So Qualcomm left that choice to the manufacturer, even though the company stressed that the Adreno GPU integrated into the chip was very powerful. However, they mentioned that the first products will use integrated GPU.

Snapdragon X Elite adopts self-developed Oryon CPU and 4nm process, has 12 cores, the main frequency is 3.8GHz, and supports dual-core Rui frequency to 4.3GHz.

In terms of performance, the single-core performance of the Oryon CPU outperformed Apple's M2 Max and reduced power consumption by 30% when reaching the peak performance of M2 Max. Compared with i9-13980HX, Oryon CPU also leads in single-core performance and reduces energy consumption by 70% to reach the peak performance of i9-13980HX.

In terms of multi-core performance, the performance of Oryon CPU is twice that of i7-1360p, and the energy consumption is reduced by 68% when reaching the peak performance of the other party. Compared with i7-13800H, the performance is improved by 60% and the energy consumption is reduced by 65%. Performance is also 50% better than M2.

In terms of GPU, Adreno GPU is used, which improves performance by two times and reduces power consumption by 74% compared with i7-13800H. Compared with Ryzen9-7940HS, GPU performance is improved by 80% and power consumption is reduced by 80%.

In terms of AI, Snapdragon X Elite brings industry-leading capabilities. Combined with the performance of CPU, GPU and NPU, the computing power of 75TOPS can be realized, and the computing power of 45TOPS can be realized only by NPU. Snapdragon X Elite supports a generative AI model with more than 13 billion parameters running on the terminal side.

Snapdragon X Elite also brings Qualcomm's leading connectivity capabilities to PC, supporting faster 5G networks, Wi-Fi 7, dual Bluetooth, etc., as well as Snapdragon features such as Snapdragon listening technology and Elite Gaming, to further improve the experience of PC products.

The PC with Snapdragon X Elite is expected to be available in mid-2024.
