CTOnews.com, October 25, recently, China Telecom Research Institute, in collaboration with China Telecom Shanghai Emergency Communications Bureau and China Telecom Satellite Company, jointly with Beijing Jiefong Chuangzhi Technology and Beijing University of posts and Telecommunications, completed the environmental test and verification of the existing satellite network directly connected to the world's first operator NR NTN (non-terrestrial network) terminal based on geosynchronous orbit satellite.

According to reports, NR NTN, as a terminal directly connected broadband satellite technology standard, is the future evolution direction of the integration of heaven and earth. This test follows the 3GPP R17 version of the international standard, focusing on verifying the network access capability, data and voice service capabilities of NR NTN in multi-terminal concurrently directly connected satellite scenarios under the synchronous orbit satellite space environment, providing a basic measurement and demonstration basis for the layout of China's comprehensive information network featuring high-speed ubiquity, integration of heaven and earth and integration of cloud and network.

During the experiment, the research and test team accurately located the impact of satellite orbit slow drift on NR NTN terminal access based on geosynchronous orbit satellite and 5MHz forwarding bandwidth scenarios, successfully opened the terminal directly connected satellite full link through periodic ephemeris data update between the system and satellite, system parameter optimization of time delay and frequency offset, and verified the key technologies such as time-frequency compensation of NR NTN under synchronous orbit satellite link.

The experiment carried out the end-to-end service capability verification, successfully got through the Voice over NR NTN voice call, and the voice quality was clear and stable. And successfully verified the hybrid networking ability of VoWIFI over NR NTN and the network access ability under the condition of multi-terminal concurrency.

The experimental results show that the NR NTN network based on geosynchronous satellite has the ability to provide broadband data and voice services, and can be used as an important portable solution in the national emergency communication service system and integrated information service system. At the same time, the experiment lays a foundation for further in-depth verification of the ability of integrated space and earth networking, 6G-oriented system design and standard formulation.

The measured download rate of 5MHz bandwidth under transparent forwarding mode can reach 5.1Mbps, the maximum loopback delay 15ms, and the maximum Doppler frequency offset 1.03MHz compensated by the user and feed full link, which is basically in line with expectations. Compared with the previous IoT-NTN only supports two-way voice intercom, SMS and other narrowband services, NR-NTN can provide mobile satellite broadband services for mass mobile phones and industry terminal users.
