CTOnews.com, October 25 (Xinhua)-- Lexus unveiled a future electric flagship SUV concept car called the LF-ZL at the Tokyo Motor Show, which uses the latest hardware and software technology to provide a "personalized" experience. The exterior design of the car has been innovated on the basis of the existing RZ and other models, while the interior has been thoroughly innovated.

Lexus says the car, along with the LF-ZC concept car, shows how the company's next-generation technology will change the driving and ownership experience. Lexus has revealed that a production version of the LF-ZC will be launched in 2026, but has not yet disclosed when the LF-ZL-based model will be available.

The LF-ZL is 5300 mm long, about 20cm longer than the newly launched Lexus LM luxury MPV and the Toyota Land Cruiser-based LX. The concept car is 2200 mm wide, 1700 mm high and has a wheelbase of 3350 mm to maximize interior space.

Like the LF-ZC concept car, LF-ZL uses Toyota's next-generation modular electric architecture, which is designed to provide the vehicle with great flexibility in size, shape and powertrain layout, dividing the vehicle into three parts (front, middle and rear) using a new mega-casting process, which Lexus claims will provide more freedom of appearance. It is worth noting that the vehicles on the platform will be built on the "self-driving assembly line" and the cars will use their own batteries and motors to move independently at each stage of the process.

The LF-ZL is based on the design elements of the existing RZ electric SUV, with a redesigned grille on the front and a smooth SUV on the body, with a long hood and a large, round cockpit area, with a very short back.

The interior of the concept car is more futuristic, with a rear door that seems to eject and slide backwards, and a driver-centered dashboard at the front of the cockpit with a yoke steering wheel, indicating the use of Lexus's on-line steering system. There is a digital control panel on each side of the steering wheel, the left panel is used to control the car's main systems, such as driving mode, driving assistance and safety systems, and the right panel controls entertainment and ventilation functions. Like the LF-ZC concept car, passengers can use a large entertainment touch screen to control the car's key functions.

The back seats seem to be embedded in the car's body, in the form of a large "business class" tilted lounge chair with pop-up leg supports.

Lexus claims that LF-ZL heralds a future in which "mobility, people and society can be seamlessly integrated", providing a driving experience that can be tailored to everyone's preferences, and the car can use AI to take "hints" from drivers' habits and provide personalized advice in its in-car Arene OS software, which Lexus claims will "promote unparalleled interaction."

Lexus has not disclosed any technical information about the LF-ZL, but there is no doubt that the car will have many of the technologies the company is developing, including the throttle-by-wire and Direct4 all-wheel drive system that appears on the RZ. Notably, the two new concept cars showcase the next generation of prism battery units, combined with improved energy efficiency, designed to provide "about twice" the range of conventional electric vehicles with a range of up to 600km (CTOnews.com Note: about 965.61 km).

In addition, the concept car aims to make extensive use of the next-generation voice recognition system, which will use AI to provide a service "like talking to a careful and considerate private servant". Lexus claims that it and the Arene OS software that Toyota will use in future vehicles will also have a huge impact on driving dynamics by enabling cars to replicate the characteristics, sound and vibration of different types of vehicles, which could be combined with the "manual" electric gearbox that Lexus is developing.

The company also said that on-board sensors on the LF-ZL will drive a system called Interactive Reality in Motion by taking information from digital data around the car, meaning that the car's display and voice guidance will provide information when the driver points to a place of interest during the journey.

Lexus has not disclosed when the LF-ZL-based mass-production model will be launched, or any information about performance, battery life or price. LF stands for Lexus Future, which is the name used by a series of concept cars in recent years, and the ZL name may be used in future mass production versions.
