CTOnews.com, October 24 (Xinhua)-- tech magnate and billionaire Musk, who often makes headlines for his bold and sometimes bizarre ideas, recently said he would donate $1 billion to Wikipedia if he was willing to change its name to D*ckipedia.

CTOnews.com note: this incident was mocked by Musk after the Wikimedia Foundation was asking for a large amount of money. Musk questioned the need for such financial support and said the entire Wikipedia text could easily be installed on a mobile phone.

Mr Musk's curiosity triggered a wave of inquiries about the use of the requested funds. The Wikimedia Foundation later explained that the Wikipedia platform handles more than 25 billion page views per month and manages more than 44 million page edits per month.

These astonishing figures reflect the high operating costs required to maintain a large database of free information. In addition the Foundation maintains transparency through the hiring of third-party financial auditors and its reports are made available to the public to ensure accountability in its financial practices.
