CTOnews.com, October 24 (Xinhua)-- Wisk Aero, an electric flying taxi company owned by Boeing, held its first public vertical take-off and landing electric aircraft (eVTOL) flight demonstration in Los Angeles this week. The company completed the feat on the 100th anniversary of long Beach Airport, a video from the scene shows the record flight, and Wisk Aero became the first vertical take-off and landing electric aircraft taxi company to conduct a test flight in the Los Angeles area.

Wisk Aero was originally founded in 2010 as Zee Aero and later merged with Kitty Hawk Corporation. Realizing the potential of its fifth-generation electric aerial taxi, the company spun off the aircraft and its team to form Wisk Aero, with an investment from Boeing.

Boeing later injected several rounds of money into the startup, and earlier this year, Wisk Aero became a wholly owned subsidiary of Boeing. Although the company operates independently, Wisk has access to Boeing's vast network of development, testing and other areas of expertise.

During the long Beach Flying Festival, Wisk Aero held its first public demonstration of electric flying taxis. The demonstration uses Wisk Aero's fifth-generation eVTOL to preview the future of autopilot passenger flight.

After the event, Wisk Aero and Boeing leaders met with the mayor of long Beach and local and state officials to discuss the future of Advanced Air Traffic (AAM) in the region. Wisk Aero established a partnership with long Beach in 2022 through the city's long Beach Economic Partnership (LBEP).

Wisk Aero is already developing its sixth-generation aircraft, an all-electric passenger aircraft expected to have four seats, a range of 90 miles (CTOnews.com Note: about 144.84 km), autopilot capability and only 15 minutes to recharge.
