Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, October 23, Matter is an open source standard for smart homes developed, certified and promoted by the Alliance for connection Standards. The standard is based on the Internet Protocol (IP), and smart home devices, mobile applications and cloud services that follow the standard can interconnect and communicate.
The CSA connection Standards Alliance has released Matter 1.2, which includes nine new device types, revisions and extensions to existing product categories, and significant improvements to existing technical specifications, SDK, certification policies, and testing tools.
CTOnews.com Note: the certification program for Matter 1.2 is now open, and alliance members will be able to put these new device types and improved features on the market by the end of this year and early 2024.
Since the launch of Matter 1. 0 a year ago, the number of Matter participants has reached 675 companies, the number of certifications has reached 1214, the number of members joining the Matter working group has increased by 24%, and the CSA Alliance has set up special interoperability testing facilities for this purpose.
Nine new device types Matter 1.2 adds support for nine new device types, brings new interoperability, simplicity, reliability and security, and unlocks new use cases and features in the future.
The new equipment types supported by Matter 1.2 include: refrigerators-in addition to basic temperature control and monitoring, this type of equipment is also suitable for other related equipment, such as deep freezers, wine cabinets, and even refrigerators that specialize in kimchi.
Room air conditioners-HVAC and thermostats are already part of Matter 1.0, this time supporting separate room air conditioners with temperature and fan mode controls.
Dishwasher-in addition to basic functions such as remote startup and progress notification, the dishwasher alarm function is also supported, covering alarms for water supply and drainage, temperature, cover locks, and other operational errors.
Washing machine-you can send progress notifications such as the completion of certain processes through Matter. Future versions of Matter will also support dryers.
Sweep Robot-in addition to basic functions such as remote startup and progress notification, other key functions such as cleaning mode (dry vacuuming and wet mopping) and status details (brush status, error reporting, charging status) are also supported.
Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms-these alarms will support notifications as well as audio and visual alarm signals. In addition, alerts about battery status and the expiration of product life are also supported. These alarms also support self-testing functions. The carbon monoxide alarm supports concentration sensing as an additional data point.
Air quality sensors-support sensors to capture and report PM1, PM 2.5, PM 10, CO2, NO2, VOC, CO, ozone, radon and formaldehyde information. In addition, an air quality feature set has been added to enable Matter devices to provide an air quality index based on location.
Air purifier-the purifier can take advantage of the sensing information provided by the air quality sensor device and also includes functions of other device types, such as fans (required) and thermostats (optional). The air purifier can also monitor consumable resources and notify the status of the filter element (both HEPA and activated carbon filter 1.2 can support).
Fan-Matter 1.2 supports fans as a separate, authenticated device type. Fans can now support movements such as head shaking / oscillation, as well as new modes such as natural wind and sleep wind. Other enhancements include the ability to change the direction of the airflow (forward and backward) and step commands to change the airflow speed.
According to reports, the increased support for household appliances in Matter 1.2 provides the Matter working group with a starting point for building a series of basic functions, such as temperature setting and monitoring and status notification, which will apply to almost all household appliances that will be supported in future releases.
Other new features and improvements the new version of Matter not only adds new device types, but its technical specifications as well as SDK, testing tools and certification programs are also evolving. The main improvements in the Matter 1.2 technical specification include:
Latches and bolted door locks-this is an enhancement for the European market that supports the common configuration of combined latches and bolted unit locks.
Device appearance-add a device appearance description so that the device can describe its own color and appearance. Make it easy for the device to express itself across clients.
Combination of devices and endpoints-devices can now be composed of complex hierarchical combinations of endpoints to accurately model household appliances, multi-unit switches, and multi-head lamps.
Semantic tags-provides an interoperable way to describe the location and semantic functions of common Matter feature sets and endpoints to achieve consistent presentation and applications across different clients. For example, semantic tags can be used to represent the location and function of each button on a multi-button remote control.
General description of device operating status-represents the different modes of operation of the device in a generic way, which makes it easier for Matter to generate new device types in future revisions and ensures that the device has basic support across clients.
Underlying enhancements: Matter SDK and the testing tool Matter 1.2 have made significant improvements to the test and certification program to help companies bring products (whether hardware, software, chipsets or applications) to market faster.
SDK adds new chip platform support-Matter 1.2 SDK is now available on more new chip platforms, providing developers with more ways to build new Matter products.
The Enhancement-Test tool (Test Harness) of Matter testing tools is the key to ensuring the correct implementation of technical specifications and their functions. Matter testing tools are now open source, ensuring that developers can use the latest version (including all features and bug fixes) and make it easier to contribute to make these tools easier to use.
