Norway Volkswagen importer Møller Mobility Group confirmed that it will stop taking orders for fuel vehicles by December 2023, after which the brand will only sell electric vehicles in Norway.

According to official Norway figures, electric cars now account for more than 20 percent of all passenger cars in the country, and the penetration rate of new cars has reached a terrifying 84 percent. If plug-in hybrids are included, that number rises to 90%.

It is worth mentioning that the Norway government also plans to ban all fuel vehicles from 2025, which is also the world's earliest ban on fuel vehicles, so Volkswagen made this decision a year in advance.

Data show that Volkswagen has exported more than 102,000 electric vehicles to Norway over the past decade, with Volkswagen ID.4 being the second-best-selling model in Norway; ID.3 ranked eighth; Tesla Model Y is the country's best-selling car, with 15,452 sold in the first half of this year, accounting for more than 20% of the market.

As Norway's electric car penetration has increased significantly, the country has begun phasing out incentives to buy new energy vehicles, while also encouraging walking, cycling and public transport to reduce the number of private cars on the road, even electric ones.

Starting this year, the country levies a 25 percent VAT on vehicles purchased for more than 500,000 Norway kroner (CTOnews.com note: about 329899 yuan), and the tax system is dynamic, with the more expensive electric cars, the higher the VAT generated.
