Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, October 22, according to a report released by Xi'an, Xijing Hospital successfully transplanted multi-gene edited pig skin to a particularly severe burn patient, and achieved good results, and the patient has been successfully discharged from the hospital. After literature search, there is no similar report in China, which is the first case in China.

Tuyuan Xi'an official account (the same below) CTOnews.com noted that in June this year, a patient with 90% of the burn area of the whole body was sent to the Department of Burn and Dermatology of Xijing Hospital. For this particularly severe burn patient, the treatment team developed a series of treatment plans, such as "multi-gene editing pig skin combined with autologous skin graft".

On July 3, medical staff performed related operations on the patients. After operation, the transplanted multi-gene edited pig skin survived well and there was no obvious rejection. After 50 days, the patient's autologous skin expanded into a piece, the covered pigskin fell off, and the wound healed completely.

On August 23, the results of relevant institutions showed that no pathogenic microorganisms were found in the patient's blood and skin.

Han Juntao, director of burn and skin surgery at Xijing Hospital, said that the treatment of extremely severe burns has always been a difficult problem in the world, and temporary coverage of burn wounds with allogeneic skin is the key to successful treatment, but the source of skin is extremely limited. The clinical effect of multi-gene edited pig skin transplantation is better than expected, which further confirms that multi-gene edited pig skin is expected to replace allogeneic skin and become a new choice for clinical treatment of patients with extra severe burns.

At the same time, the development of gene editing techniques such as repeated extraction and regeneration of pigskin and long-term storage of skin will accelerate the construction of hospital strategic storage of xenogeneic skin, which is expected to solve the problem of wound coverage in batches of burn patients as soon as possible.

It is understood that gene editing technology is a revolutionary biotechnology used to modify the genome of organisms. It is based on a variety of tools that enable scientists to accurately edit and change specific gene sequences.
