CTOnews.com October 22 news, foreign media 9to 5 Google in the latest beta version of Google App on Android, found a clearly marked "Iris" string, prompting users to touch and press the right temple to talk to Google Assistant.

Just touch & hold the right temple to talk to your Assistant.

Its appearance suggests that Google has restarted its previously shelved "Project Iris"AR glasses project. According to 9to 5 Google further analysis and confirmation, this string of codes refers to the device that Google has given "Iris_device," indicating that "Iris" will be a piece of hardware made by Google, or it may just refer to AR glasses in the general sense, but not headphones like Sony LinkBuds, which support facial touch operation.

Reported that the AR glasses codenamed "Iris" will be highly integrated with Google Assistant, part of the code shows that the glasses can be used for common Google Assistant operations, including setting timers, calling friends and so on.

CTOnews.com previously reported that in June this year, foreign media Business Insider said Google had "terminated" the project. Earlier this year, Google experienced layoffs and restructuring, and Clay Bavor, Google AR / VR director, also announced his departure. The glasses have since been put on hold. A Google spokesman declined to comment.

The Verge first reported the existence of Project Iris in January 2022, describing the device as similar to a pair of ski goggles. Google employees, however, say Ski Goggles is actually a separate AR base project for Samsung's partner products, while Iris is a series of devices more akin to glasses.

Since then, it has been reported that Google plans to develop and launch Iris as its own product and consolidate talent through acquisitions. In 2020, the company announced the acquisition of North, a Canadian startup that makes AR glasses. Earlier versions of Iris were very similar to North's first device, Focals, while later versions of Google demos featured translation.
